The Chinese Government will hold a series of activities, one of which will be a World Space Week Celebration Rally on October 4 in Beijing University to be
attended by more than 2,000 people. A top Chinese leader, possibly Premier Zhu Rongji, will speak at the rally.
The theme of the Chinese Government programme for celebrating World Space Week is publicize science, combat superstition and pseudoscience, enhance the
awareness and knowledge of outer space by the public, especially the youth, and encourage the masses to participate in and support the outer space cause.
China National Space Administration will organize a series of nationwide activities centering on this theme in various forms with substantial content, which will include:
- holding a commemoration meeting
- issuing commemorative stamps and first day covers
- editing & publishing popular space science books for youths and presenting some of these books to primary and middle schools,
- running a tour exhibition on popular space science for juveniles
- inviting personnel from diplomatic missions and UN organs accredited to China to visit China Space Science and Technology Museum and the Popular Space Science Tour
Exhibition.
Besides Beijing, other big cities like Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou will also host relevant activities. We hope that these celebrating and commemorating
activities will contribute to the international celebration of World Space Week.
