Report on the Results:  Students from University of California at Santa Barbara and members of WILPF, Global Network, Nevada Experience and Nuclear Age Peace Foundation gathered for the vigil. as quoted from the Santa Maria Times A small group of protesters gathered on a windy afternoon Saturday near Vandenberg Air Force Base's main gate to oppose military space programs. Eleven activists, some from as far away as Los Angeles and the Bay Area, traveled to the base to mark Keep Space for Peace Week. Space should belong to the whole world, not just 5 percent of the population, said MacGregor Eddy, a Salinas resident and member of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space. Eddy added that Keep Space for Peace Week involves protests at government installations and military bases around the world. We may be a small group here, she said, but we're part of something bigger. . . . At past demonstrations, Air Force security officers have arrested demonstrators who strayed from a small, designated assembly area. No one was arrested Saturday but Air Force security told Eddy that she would be arrested if she didn't leave. We're here to make sure there is a peaceful protest, Lt. Col. Antonius Spangler said, adding that Eddy is facing criminal charges stemming from a prior protest at Vandenberg. She has been barred and is currently barred from the base.
