Event Name:	2008 World Space Week Celebration Part 1
Event Description:	The following activities that were conducted during the World Space Week celebration in Metro Manila were organized by the Science Education Institute of DOST. 1) Opening Ceremonies was held on October 6, 2008 at the UPNISMED (Host for October 6 events)at 8:30 AM and was attended by high school students and science teachers. It was also graced by some members of the National Advisory Committee on Philippine Space Education Program. 2)Lecture Demonstration on Making Water-Boosted Rocket was conducted right after the Opening Ceremony at the same venue. There were two resource persons, both are faculty members of the UP Institute of Mathematics(formally student-participants to the 2005 ESA Summer Camp in Norway)who shared their experiences in building and launching a rocket. They also gave lectures on the history of rocket, and how to make and launch a water-boosted rocket through powerpoint presentation and actual demonstration. 3) Water-Boosted Rocket Competition was held in the afternoon of October 6, 2008. There were two categories in the competition: spot launching category and vertical launching category. There were 15 high schools that participated in the event.

Report on the Results:	The highlight of the event was the participation of the National Orthopedic Hospital School for Crippled Children, a special school for the disabled who had their first hand experienced on how to make and launch a water-boosted rocket. The students were in wheel chair and they participated actively in the water rocket competition. All the other participating schools were mostly Science High Schools. There was much enthusiasm and interest from the high school students specially for those schools that participated for the first time in the water rocket event. The Lecture Demonstration and Water Rocket Competition was covered live by the GMA-7 TV Network and was broadcasted in their prime time news program (24 Oras) which was also viewed via the web. After the WSW celebration, ABS-CBN, another TV network featured the winners of the water rocket competition in a live studio interview at ANC (Dateline Philippines)and DZMM (Bago Yan Ah!) programs. An article was also published in the Manila Bulletin, a daily broadsheet newspaper.
