| Event Name: | History of LZOS. Creation of the 6-m telescope SAO RAS. |
| Event Description: | The event will tell about creation of the 6-m alt/az mounted telescope (BTA - Big Telescope Alt-azimuth) Special Astrophysical Observatory RAS. This is the largest optical telescope in Eurasia. The large 6-meter mirror for this telescope was manufactured at the Lytkarino Optical Glass Factory in 1970s. Currently, the plant is about to complete the project to upgrade the 6-meter double mirror. In the near future, it will be delivered from Lytkarino to Karachay-Cherkessia for installation in a BTA telescope. Very soon, Russian astronomers will receive a qualitatively new tool for studying the universe. This event was the beginning of a larger program of professional orientation of the youth Lytkarino. Its participants were more than 300 students.. |
