| Event Name: | SCIENTIX WEBINAR: FROM ASTRONOMY RESEARCH TO SCIENTIX |
| Event Description: | The webinar takes place in the Scientix online meeting room on 4 October 2018, from 18:00 to 19:00 Central European Summer Time (CEST). After registration, you will receive an email with instructions. NB: Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis! This webinar is one of series of activities Scientix organises during the World Space Week 2018. It aims at introducing participants to the space-related research done by two scientists. This webinar is relevant to everyone who is interested in learning about trends in current space and astronomy research described in simple words by professionals in their fields. Dr Agueda Gras-Velazquez, Science Programme Manager, Head of the Science Education Department, European Schoolnet, shares how her research connected to key questions like ‘Where do we come from?’ and ‘Are we alone in the universe?’ and how she moved from astrophysics to project management. Dr Anastasiya Boiko, Project Officer, European Schoolnet, talks about radio telescopes, their advantages for astronomy research, and how researchers carry out observations of solar phenomena and, with the help of ground-based instrumentation, look for stellar systems that have similar activity to our Sun. About the presenters Dr Agueda Gras-Velazquez (Astrophysicist / Project Manager) is the Science Programme Manager of European Schoolnet. As Head of the Science Education Department at European Schoolnet, she is in charge of overseeing and coordinating all the mathematics and science projects in which European Schoolnet is involved. Additionally, she is in charge of the day-to-day management of Scientix (the community for science education in Europe, http://scientix.eu), coordinates EUN’s Ministries of Education STEM representatives Working Group, and since January 2017, has managed the European Schoolnet Academy. Dr Anastasiya Boiko (Radio Astronomer / Project Coordinator) is a Project Officer at the European Schoolnet’s Science Education Department. She acts as Deputy Project Manager of the STEM Alliance. She is a coordinator of Teaching ICT with Inquiry and spaceEDU projects from European Schoolnet’s side. In the Next-Lab project, she coordinates and supports a team of 20 Go-Lab ambassadors – lead teachers promoting Inquiry-Based Science Education and the use of online laboratories in their countries. Moreover, she uses her extensive knowledge and scientific expertise to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in Europe.
