Report on the Results:  WSW Report 2018 BBPS, GRH Marg 1. Audio books session was organised on 10th Oct. for students of all the sections of IV & V students having an average strength of 45 students. Stories titled - 'How to catch a star' by Oliver Jeffers (https://youtube.be/_3oQcKxE-ck) 'If you decide to go to the moon' by Faith Mcnulty (https://youtube.be/UI0MaVMiyck ) and was played on the smart boards. 2. Astro Tattoo making: On 11th Oct. Students of class IV worked in pairs, making an ‘astronomy themed’ tattoo’s on the hands of their partners in their class. They. brought their own colours and designs for the activity. The objective of the activity was to create an interest in the field of astronomy and to learn about the subject in a fun way. They participated with great enthusiasm and creativity in their work. 3. Bookmark Making: Students of class V made astronomy themed bookmarks in their classes on 15 Oct. Bookmarks were deigned to highlight a quote by an astronomer/ famous personality of the field and decorated with drawings/pictures / stickers related to astronomy. 4. Visit to Planetarium/ Jantar Mantar/ Science centre: Students of classes IV-VI were encouraged to visit any of the places related to the field of science along with their family members, like-National science centre/ Nehru Planetarium and Jantar Mantar. They were instructed to visit these places before 16th Oct and to submit photographs of their outing. The visit became an enriching experience, as it was picnic cum learning new experience for the entire family. 5. Art Party: Students of class sixth participated in an art party on 10-10-18. Students made colourful drawings related to WSW theme ‘Space Unites the world’ on an A3 size sheet. Later they displayed their work of art on the display board of the respective classes. 6. Build Your Own Spacecraft Model: The activity was conducted on 12-10-018 with class sixth students. Students made creative and unique models of various artificial satellites using waste materials like plastic bottles, plastic cups, card board, old newspaper etc. 7. Astronomy Quiz: It conducted on 16th October for the students of VII class. A total of 16 students of quizzing club of VII class participated in the quiz representing each of the eight sections of VII. The Quiz was conducted by the students of Quizzing club of class X, namely-Ananya Sharma, Sparsh Vashisht, Kunal Dhawan and Vaatsalya. They prepared all the quiz questions and also acted as the quiz masters and the score keeper. Quiz was conducted in rounds- First round was the written round consisting of multiple choice questions and top 8 students were selected. Second round was the oral round through which 5 students were selected. In third round, rapid fire questions were asked to select top three students. Winners were- I - Aanchal Aggarwal VII D; II - Tanisha Watts VII A III - Vidisha Sharma VII G 8. Astro Cooking: On 15th October Eleven students of Class VI took part in Astro-cooking Competition. Food items prepared by them were tastefully presented depicting various aspects of Astronomy; like- sandwiches in the form of stars and crescent moon, chocolate cakes with sugar icing and chocolate biscuits depicting phases of moon, Aaloo Tikki and French fries to depict sun; chocolate brownie and gems dipped in chocolate sauce made for an asteroid belt Laddoos of different size and coloured with edible paint depicted our solar system and other similar items. The event was judged by Ms Ratika, Ms Shweta and Ms Manjari Gupta Winners were- I - Reet Kaur VI F II- Garima Pipal VI E III- Mehar Talreja VI D &Soumya Sinha VI F 9. Science –Fact or Fiction: Morning Assembly is an important aspect of any school curriculum, and it is essential for every student of the school to attend it. In our school, morning assemblies are spread over three days of a week (that is on 10 Oct-Wednesday; 12th Oct Friday and 16th Oct Tuesday) to ensure participation of all students. It was during the assembly that a special segment was devoted to Astronomy and World Space Week. Yatika Sehgal & Chehak Jain of class IX C shared with the gathering their views on science and its various concepts; theories and ideas. How much of these are a part of science fiction and how close it is – or not – to becoming science, that is, proven and supported by concrete evidences. The aim behind their topic was to educate students about how continuous scientific research in the field of Astronomy is diluting the boundaries between the fiction and reality. Through their dedicated research, scientists have widened the scope of possibilities of fictional concepts and bringing them into the realm of reality. 10. Spin off Events: Mahima Aggarwal of VIII class shared during morning assemblies are spread over three days of a week (that is on 10 Oct-Wednesday; 12th Oct Friday and 16th Oct Tuesday), about the ‘Role of Satellites’, so as to educate the public about how space research is helping us in our everyday life. 11. Space Themed Object Talk: Morning Assembly is an important aspect of school curriculum, and it is essential for every student of the school to attend it. In our school, morning assembly is spread out over three days of a week (that is on Tuesday; Wednesday and Friday) to ensure mass participation from junior to senior class students. A Talk/ an enactment from the field of Astronomy’ was incorporated as a segment of the morning assemblies along with other topics related to of the morning assemblies in the week falling between 10th to 16th Oct to mark the World Space Week, and its importance. Manasvi Rohilla and Havisha Dhawan of class V came dressed as Aryabhatta and Black Hole respectively. They narrated their life’s journey; their role in space exploration and process to the audience. 12. Astro Rocketry: On the evening of 16th Oct. Hydro Rocketry session was organised in the school premises for the parents of IV and V class students. More than 150 parents attended the session. Students of Module II, of the Astronomy club assisted by the representatives of the Space organisation managed the session. 13. Astro Costume Party: An astronomy themed Costume party was organised for the students of IV standard club members in the evening of 16th Oct. More than 60 students participated in the program. They came dressed as-Polaris, Comet, Astronaut, Rocket, Sun, etc. The program was attended by the parents and astronomy club members. The event was judged by the SPACE educators- Ms Soumya Sharma, Ms Astha Talwar and Mr Rohib Ur Rehman. Winners of the event are as under: I – Kriti Gogia (Comet) IV H II – Atharva Keswani (Rocket) IV E III – Manya Gandhi (Astronomer) IV F Special mention was made for the following: Kyera Kapoor (Polaris) IV C Sayma (Valentina Treshkova) IV A Aarav Prashar (Alien from Mars) IV F 14. Evening Observation: On 16th Oct. 2018, an evening session was organized in the school premises, as a part of WSW activities. This event was attended by the 80 students of IV & V along with their parents. And telescopes were set up in the school ground. On the day it was a crescent moon, but a sudden and a heavy cloud cover completely blocked the sky and left everyone disappointed. 15. Online Interaction with Dr J Patrick Miller: Under Space Astronomy Talk, online interactive session with Dr J Patrick Miller, Director, International Asteroid Search Collaboration (IASC) was attended by select students from classes VI to IX in the Senior Computer Lab on 10th Oct.. The topic of discussion was- ‘ Asteroids and Prospects of Asteroid Mining.’ 16. Movie Marathon: Students of all the sections of VI standard were shown Astronomy themed Documentary-‘Death of Planet Venus’ on 12th Oct. in their respective class on the smart board.
