Event Name:  Keep Space for Peace Week
Event Description:  This year Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space (GN ) facilitated the ninth Keep Space for Peace Week during the United Nations World Space Week. The annual global conference was planned for Nagpur India. In another global effort the producer and director of the award winning Canadian documentary "Pax Americana and the Weaponization of Space" expected multiple showings of that film during KS4P. Reaching Critical Will (of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom [WILPF]) prepared to observe and report on UN treaty recommendations in the General Assembly First Committee starting October 3. Plans for 56 events in eleven countries were reported to Global Network prior to the week. The goal is always to point out the dangers inherent in aggressive space militarization, and to call for prevention of an arms race in outer space (PAROS) and for bans on nuclear power and weapons in space.

Report on the Results:  Unfortunately the GN international conference held always during KS4P week had to be cancelled this year because the host organization in Nagpur India was “at the last minute” denied the necessary government permits. However a very successful national conference was held instead with over 250 participants including many students and faculty. That and other events are reported under India. In a second global effort WILPF Reaching Critical Will facilitated NGO workshops and participation in the General Assembly First Committee and edited the weekly monitor. In the third global effort thirteen countries hosted the award winning Canadian documentary “Pax Americana and the Weaponization of Space.” These included Argentina, Chile, Czech Republic, India, Japan, Norway, South Korea, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay. Global Network and its affiliates and co-sponsors engaged in many varied activities which high lighted the dangers of aggressive space militarization to both the human race and planet earth. Many events also pointed to space law as the best hope for ensuring peaceful uses of space to benefit all humankind. More details on all events are reported under individual countries with KS4P events. In addition other organizations among GNs over 150 affiliates sponsored other events reported under the above mentioned countries as well as Japan and South Korea.
