Event Description:  For the seventh consecutive year our club organizes in the Swiss Air Force Museum in Payerne, Canton Vaud (Switzerland) the „Payerne Space Day" as part of the WSW. This year it’s the turn of the Institute for primary and secondary school Montreux-West in Clarens, located on Lake of Geneva. The “Payerne World Space Week Program” started in August, after the summer vacations and ends with the “Payerne Space Day” on October 5th, in accordance with the school program. Approximately 60 pupils aged from 11 to 16 years will deal with space issues. The main objective is to interest this young people in technology and science in general. They will bring closer the space to the museum visitors with the following means they are about to prepare: - A giant crossword puzzle with space terms - A film produced by the children on the subject of space; from the design of the script through the movie direction to the performance, everything is the work of the children - A PowerPoint presentation which explains the interrelations between sun and moon, e.g. the emergence of eclipses - A question-and-answer game about space using replicated celestial bodies and space objects - A PowerPoint presentation about the moon missions and the conquest of the moon - A representation of our solar system - Models and drawings of space beings, how they imagine the children - Observing instruments. As always, one of the highlights of our “Payerne World Space Week Program 2013” will be the attendance of Swiss Astronaut and Club Member Claude Nicollier and the debriefing, which he will held afterwards with the children. Another, always highly appreciated highlight will be an amateur radio short wave contact with our call HB9SPACE between the schoolchildren and radio amateur Jacky, 3B8CF in Mauritius. For this, the children will prepare 20 questions about space, which are addressed to “OM” Jacky to be answered by him competently.

Report on the Results:  The „Payerne Space Day 2010" was held on October 9, as usual in the Swiss Air Force Museum "Clin d'Ailes". It was animated by schoolchildren of the “Institute for primary and secondary school Montreux-West” in Clarens, located on Lake of Geneva (Canton Vaud, Switzerland). The Schoolchildren from Montreux/Clarens did a great job. They presented and brought closer several space themes to their parents and the regular museum visitors using various display options such as a giant crossword puzzle with space terms, a movie produced by the children from the design of the script through the movie direction to the performance, PowerPoint presentations, an electronic question-and-answer game, a model of our solar system, observing instruments and a lot of drawings and paintings. The highlight of the "Payerne Space Day" was again the short-wave radio contact with OM Jacky, 3B8CF, on the isle of Mauritius. The students asked him some very interesting questions about the universe and Jacky replied in a clear and concise manner. Unfortunately, this time the propagation conditions were not favorable, so that the exchange of questions/answers was sometimes affected by atmospheric disturbances. Another highlight will be a debriefing with Astronaut and Club Member Claude Nicollier (HB9CN) with the schoolchildren, to be held on November 18th.
