Location: Zoom Topic: Mapping the Universe with CHIME Speaker: Simon Foreman Bio: Simon is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics Abstract: For the past few years, a unique new telescope — known as CHIME — has been operating in BC’s Okanagan Valley, with the primary goal of learning about the history and composition of the universe by mapping the distribution of hydrogen gas across cosmic distances. In this presentation, I will tell you the what, why, and how of CHIME (including where it gets its name), share some behind-the-scenes photos, and provide a glimpse of the latest sky maps based on recent CHIME data. |
