| Event Name: | Skype chats with space professionals |
| Event Description: | 1) Friday, October 4: Skype chat with Ecuador's only astronaut, Commander Ronnie Nader. 2) Wednesday, October 9: Skype chat with Ecuadorian NASA engineer for the International Space Station - Juniper Jairala. 3)Monday, October 14: Skype chat with the NASA retired risk-manager for the International Space Station - Michael Lutomsky. 4) Skype chat with Ecuadorian NASA consultant - Alfonso Murillo. 5) Other: Watch ISS video, student presentations on Voyagers 1 and 2, create a 3D solar system, and more. In later weeks, the students would follow the launch of Ecuador's second satellite, Krysaor, on November 21st through the Ecuadorian Civilian Space Agency (EXA). Once its signal is ready, in January, the students will use its onboard video camera for educational purposes, as well as try to decode its signal. 6) On October 17th a space education presentation was given to Ecuadorian educators at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ); after which several educators implemented satellite education into their classrooms as part of a leadership project through NASA's Endeavor Teaching Certificate Program. 7) An article on implementing satellite education in the classroom was published through USFQ/IDEA's Para el Aula magazine. |
