Event Name:  Space Technology: Career Prospects and Sustainable Development
Event Description:  ASTAL’s World Space Week will kick-start with media coverage through a 3 minute radio announcement at University of Uyo Radio for duration of one week prior to the event. The World Space Week announcements will also be disseminated through Flyers and University of Uyo News Bulletin a month before the start date. Series of presentations designed to address subjects such as timeline of space science/technology, career opportunities in space technology, and the role of space technology in sustainable development of Nigeria will be made. Tentative schedule: Below is the schedule of the 2014 World Space Week tentatively proposed by ASTAL: ACTIVITY 1: Presentations on highlights of history of developments in space science on a global scale. The target audience will be the public; encompassing primary school children, secondary school students and adults. Time: 10: 00am – 4:00pm, Date: October 6, 2014. ACTIVITY 2: Technical presentations on Space Technology Applications. The target audience will be researchers, scientists, decision-makers. Time: 10: 00am – 4:00pm, Date: October 9, 2014 ACTIVITY 3: Presentations on career prospects tailored to meet audience need. The target audience will be Secondary school students, undergraduate and postgraduate students. Time: 10: 00am – 4:00pm, Date: October 7, 2014. ACTIVITY 4: Presentations on career prospects tailored to meet audience need. The target audience will be Secondary school students, undergraduate and postgraduate students. Time: 10: 00am – 4:00pm, Date: October 8, 2014. ACTIVITY 5: Space Science Quiz and Party. Quiz categorized for specific levels namely primary, secondary and undergraduate students. The target audience will comprise teachers, primary and secondary schools students. Time: 10: 00am – 4:00pm, Date: October 10, 2014. *Event Type: The events planned by ASTAL during the upcoming 2014 WSW will be featured as both School and Public. Hence it could be tagged School/Public Event.
