Event Name:  Exploring Space
Event Description:  In Science: 7th Grade Students will be engaged in constructing and launching model rockets made from 2 liter soft drink bottles. Students will study the physical science relating to energy and the Laws of Motion. 8th Grade Students will study thermodynamics, construct and launch a sixty (60') foot hot air balloon. 5th Grade Students will, in groups, design and construct chambers for the growth and farming of fruits, vegetables, and other foods on the moon and in the International Space Station. In Mathematics: Students will independently devise a method to measure the relationship between launch angle, distance a airborne rocket will travel, and the time necessary to travel to those distances. Students will relate their time and distance findings to interplanetary space travel In Social Studies: Students will watch the movie 'The Right Stuff' and select a major character with whom they can identify. Students will attempt to correspond with either such character or their current equivilent. The entire school (Grades Pre-K through 8) will participate in the launch and other activites.
