Event Description:  Space Weekend in EXPERYMENT EXPERYMENT Science Center joins 2014 World Space Week celebration! World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology and it is held annually since 1999, from 4 to 10 of October. These dates represent the two major events in the history of space: the launch of the first artificial satellite - Sputnik 1 and the signing of Outer Space agreement. It includes events organized by space agencies, planetariums, museums and research centers around the world - last year the number of related activities reached more than 1 400 in 80 countries! This year at EXPERYMENT Science Centre in Gdynia all of our guests will be able to join the celebration! The first weekend of October will be full of truly cosmic events – all of them included in the ticket price. Program for Saturday and Sunday, October 4th and 5th, 2014: 11:00 and 16:00: Cosmic Science Show during which you will meet two scientists trying to explain the mysteries of the Universe in their laboratory. With chemical and physical experiments, amongst others, they will be explaining topics of stars, cold in the Space or gravity. 11:30 and 16:30: Workshop “In Pursuit of the Comet” – visitors will be able to learn how the Solar System was created, how to identify celestial bodies and constellations, as well as where do the satellites takes the necessary energy from and how to send information from comets to Earth. They will also perform a number of interesting tasks. One will be to decrypt the message that is sent by the satellite to Earth. Workshops are intended for teenagers and adults. From 13:00 to 15:30: Entertainment for kids – artistic design workshops on the topic of Space The event will be accompanied by the exhibition “Meet Rosetta” which will be available in EXPERYMENT since 7th of October. Thanks to it you will learn about the pioneering 10-year mission of Rosetta probe and Philae lander. Its 10 years old chase for one of the oldest and most distant comets in our Solar System is coming to a decisive phase. Pioneering rover landing on the comet is scheduled for November of this year. Material and samples collected in the course of this mission could be a breakthrough since one of the theories is that life was transported to Earth on the surface of the oldest comets. Workshops “In Pursuit of the Comet” and exhibition “Meet Rosetta” are a part of the European Campaign ESA Rosetta coordinated by Ecsite with the support of the European Space Agency and created by the Space Group Ecsite.
