Space travel motivates young minds. This middle school language arts and science activities guide leverages the universal appeal of space to students.
UN-declared World Space Week, October 4-10, is the ideal time every year to use the excitement of space to inspire students. The largest annual public
space event on Earth, World Space Week celebrates the birth of the space age in over 50 countries.
Robert A. Heinlein was one of the greatest American science fiction authors. Have Space Suit Will Travel, about
a youngster and written for youngsters, is the ideal book to both motivate students to read and to understand the science behind space travel.
In celebration of these two historic anniversaries, the Heinlein Prize Trust and the World Space Week Association are pleased to provide this free middle
school teacher activities guide. It includes excerpts from the book and 12 activities, six each in science and language arts, based on the excerpts. The activities
can be used with minimal preparation in science, language arts, or interdisciplinary teaching environments.
