Highlights of World Space Week
October 4 - 10, 2002
Theme: Space and Daily Life

Highlights of World Space Week 2002 include:

  • Celebration on all seven continents for the first time, including Antarctica.
  • Students around the world did space-related math and science activities during World Space Week.
  • The World Space Congress in Houston, Texas, USA. This was the largest space conference in history, combining the annual conferences of the IAF and COSPAR. Many related events took place.
  • Events in numerous developing countries focused on how space can save lives, improve living conditions, and build sustainable economic development.
  • UNESCO global student contest
  • Distribution by the European Space Agency of World Space Week teacher materials in many languages. 
  • Teachers from Algeria and the United States won awards for using space to motivate students during World Space Week.
