Highlights of World Space Week October 4 - 10, 2003 Theme: Space -- Horizon Beyond Earth
Highlights of World Space Week 2003 included:
Lance Bass served as World Space Week Youth Spokesperson. Students designed Lance's Lab, a "new" module on the
International Space Station. Winners later met Bass in person. Bass appeared in schools during World Space Week to promote science and math education. Heavy media coverage was reported.
Major World Space Week celebration held across the Czech Republic
In the UK, a major space art exhibition was held in Manchester.
In South Africa, the Southern Skies Challenge invited youth to write, draw or create other art in different
categories about space sciences. Prizes included computers, cash prizes and visits to the new Southern African Large Telescope.
In Germany, world space leaders met at the International Astronautical Congress in Bremen. The German Aerospace Centre
(DLR) and French Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) sponsored a special World Space Week event.
In Poland, Warsaw Technical University hosted lectures about the International Space Station, exploration of Mars, and
life beyond Earth during Space Week.
In Colombia, students broadcast a two-hour special program dedicated to World Space Week through La Voz de la Costa
radio station 1190 kHz AM.
In the United States, NASA's Johnson Space Center hosted a webcast called "Space Station Today."
