Highlights of World Space Week
October 4 - 10, 2005

Highlights of World Space Week 2005 include:

• The largest public space event in world history, with celebrations in some 50 nations.
• Diverse World Space Week celebrations were held in such countries as Bangladesh, Colombia, Finland, Philippines, Republic of Korea, and Singapore.
• In Washington, NASA Deputy Administrator nominee Shana Dale addressed space leaders at a World Space Week Reception, while the X-Prize-winning SpaceShipOne was unveiled for public display at the Smithsonian. The X-Prize Cup in New Mexico showcased commercial space transportation.
• Teachers globally used space to motivate students this week. New this year were language arts activities based the work of author Robert Heinlein. The United Nations held a global Mars Base design competition during World Space Week. 
• BookCrossing promoted the reading and sharing of space-related books globally.
• In Earth orbit, a Soyuz spacecraft docked with the International Space Station on October 3 and undocked on October 10.
