Highlights of World Space Week 2007 include:
- The largest public space event in world history, with celebrations commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Space Age which began on October 4, 1957 at
19:12 GMT.
- Scope of the celebration as reported in the event calendar:
- 54 countries reported participation
- Plus several global/regional on-line activities
- Plus 2 activities in space
- 230 unique cities
- 424 unique programs
- 50% of these reporting afterwards
- Total attendance 368,078
- Total media impressions 25,393,000
- Students from nine countries fly together on a zero-gravity airplane on October 6 as part of the World Space Week Youth Inspiration Program.
- Youngsters around the world flew small rockets on the 50th anniversary of the Space Age to "launch" the next 50 years in space.
- Bigelow Aerospace displayed the World Space Week logo on its Genesis 2 spacecraft in orbit and beamed back a photo during World Space Week.
- The UN issued special space stamps in honor of the anniversary and World Space Week. The World Space Week logo appears on a special souvenir sheet.
