• Tenth anniversary of World Space Week, declared by the UN General Assembly in 1999
• The largest public space event in history, with nearly 700 reported events in 55 nations
• President Obama hosted a star party at the White House on October 7
• Ukraine Prime Minister congratulated space workers on occasion of World Space Week
• NASA Administrator Bolden sent a World Space Week message to all NASA employees
• Astronauts on the International Space Station send a World Space Week message
• Events celebrated the International Year of Astronomy
• Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté broadcasted from space
• Students observed the Moon to win prizes
• Greatest number of events in Turkey, India, Romania, Slovakia, and the United States
• The Great World Wide Star Count began
• Space Festival and International Astronautical Congress in Republic of Korea
• Week-long space celebration across the Hawaiian islands
• Public and students sent messages into space via SentForever
• NASA's LCROSS mission impacted the Moon October 9
• Teachers globally inspired students using the excitement of space
