World Space Week 2006 Report
The Space Day 2006 was held, organised by the Hungarian Space Office and the Hungarian Astronautical Society. The public event was partly for
professionals, partly for general audience, with great emphasis of undergraduate students. The annual event attracts each year a few hundred participants. The Space Day 2006 was organised in the House of Future
wich has a permanent exhibition on space research (astronomy from space, space applications, space history, research of the Red Planet, etc.).
The Hungarian Space Office organised the Sixth Youth Forum as a student conference about their possibilities on participating in space research. The
students presented their results in science and their participation in international space programs as ESA's SSETI student satellite programme.
The Hungarian Astronautical Society announced the start of its annual essay competition for young people. The first prize of the contest is a
participation in the Space Camp in Huntsville (Alabama, USA) for the two best applicants. This year, the topic is the 50th Anniversary of the launch of Sputnik 1. The Society also organised the Hungarian Space Camp
in the small town of Szentlélek.
The Planetarium Kecskemét and the TIT Planetarium Budapest remembered the UN World Space Week with their programmes, special presentations on space
research that week.
The Spaceweek International Association sent posters to Hungary which were forwarded to Hungarian schools and institutes. In schools and spacial student
astronomy groups were held some presentation under World Space Week as e. g. in Székesfehérvár. The Institute of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing also organised a conference remembering the history of the
space research in the Institute.
