World Space Week 2006 Report
The World Space Week celebration in Iran was held from 6 to 12 November this year due to coincidence of 4-10 October with Ramadan. As a tradition, each day
of World Space Week was devoted to a specific theme related to space that hosted by some organizations or institutions and sponsored by the Iranian Space Agency. The detailed schedule was as follows:
- Monday 6th November, with the theme "Space and Satellite Communications," was organized and hosted by the Iranian Space Agency.
- Tuesday 7th November, with the theme "Space, Education and Research," was hosted by the Aero-Space Research Institute of Iran and some Iranian leading
universities.
- Wednesday 8th November, with the theme "Space and Meteorology," was hosted by the Iranian Meteorological Organization.
- Thursday 9th November, with the theme "Space, Education and Tele-health," was hosted by the Iranian Space Agency.
- Friday 10th November, with the theme "Space and Astronomy," was hosted by the Iranian Astronomical Society.
- Saturday 11th November, with the theme "Space and Disaster Management," was hosted by the Iranian Geographical Organization.
- Sunday 12th November, with the theme "Space and sustainable Development," was hosted by the Iranian Space Agency.
This year's World Space Week was comprised of a variety of activities including scientific and technical seminars, interviews and workshops,
exhibitions, movie shows, TV and radio programs, and painting and writing contests for children and teen-agers. Participation of the reputable Russian astronaut Igor Volek in some ceremonies of World Space Week
drew the attention and interest of the audience while he shared his experience about his space trips and ideas with them. Moreover, travel of Anousheh Ansari, the first female space tourist of Iranian descent in
September 2006 was publicized by World Space Week programs and was well received especially by youth. Indeed, this year's World Space Week in Iran had strong participation by young people.
