I wanted to thank everyone for an inspirational as well as very enjoyable evening at the Awards Gala in May. I apologize that I have taken so long to send this message. However my daughter Sarah and I attended; following Sarahs' teacher Ann Giove to Houston for this very exciting trip. Sarah's name had not been drawn to been the representative for her class, however her teacher knew of her love for space and had asked if we could attend as well. As a family we also know of her interest and could not pass this opportunity for her. So I thank you for allowing us to attend the gala. To Sarah this trip was not only inspirational, but more memorable than I could ever imagine. Sarahs' interest in space has only increased since our trip, she has only talked of going back if not moving to Houston, and eventually working for NASA. Her speech at the school years end, was about receiving a good education so that she could get a job at NASA. Everyone at the gala were wonderful to Sarah, they treated her with such kindness, she felt like a princess at the gala. The people from the USA group went out of their way to speak to her as well as ensure that she met all of the astronauts that were there. Sarah had been in such awe, she could not speak at some times, and when she met Mr. Foale and his wife, she only could giggle, she now feels they are personal friends of hers. Mrs. Foale was very gracious and kind to Sarah. Mrs. Foale also gained much respect from Sarah, who has similar interests, she found out that Mrs. Foale was a geologist, worked for NASA and then becoming a teacher, Sarah still talks about her and how she wants to be like her. I could not have asked for better role models for my daughter. We had a wonderful trip, great memories that will not compare to anything, but another trip to Houston for Sarah, and I especially have learned more than I would have ever expect about the space program. My hat off to this organization, who I understand are volunteers, you are touching many young people, and then their families and friends as well. Thank you very much for all your time and effort. |
