World Space Week 2004 Report

World Space Week in Libya was organized by the Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Science, as the main coordinator in the Great Libyan Jamahiria, in accordance to its specialization in space sciences, and its purpose in the distribution of scientific know how. In response to this and to promote awareness of this international and special celebration, the Libyan Center celebrated this event on the 10th of October 2004, by having a Scientific Gathering where speeches were delivered by several distinguished leaders:

  • The Director of the Center & Head of the Preparation Committee,
  • The head of the Arab Union for Space Science & Astronomy,
  • The Director of Department of International Organizations in the General Peoples Committee & International Cooperation and the Resident Representative of the UN Development Program in the Great Jamahiriya
  • The General Director of the National Office for Research & Development.

The conference started its Scientific Menu with first session under the title "Astronomic Observatories & The Space Science and Astronomy in the Arab World" where a number of scientific papers were presented and fully consumed by the attendance. The second session was under the title, "Crescents and the Hijri Lunar Calendar." A number of papers were presented. The next day additional papers on this subject were presented, followed by sessions on "Remote Sensing and Space Science" and Astrophysics.  The third day began with a session on the solar system, another for amateur astronomers, and a final session and recommendations.
