World Space Week 2005 Report

Along with the celebration of our people in the Great Jamahiriya of the upcoming 37th year festivities of the Great Elfath Revelation, the Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Science joins other members of the United Nations in celebrating World Space Week.

The Center coordinated preparations to celebrate the World Space Week, which was on Monday October 12, 2005 under the supervision of the National Office for Research and Development (NORD) and with cooperation of:

  • The United Nations technical office and media center in the Great Jamahiriya.
  • The permanent national committee for the peaceful use of outer space.
  • The national committee for remote sensing.
  • The center invited one of the scientific institutes in vicinity of the district of Tripoli to attend the scientific Program, to introduce the space science and its application and the purpose of celebrating this event.

The guests attending the General Program of this international were:

  • Lead of peoples committee for high education.
  • Director of the center and President of the national of committee for remote sensing.
  • Representative of the permanent national committee for the peaceful outer anther space.
  • Representative of the UN Program in Libya.
  • Representative of the National Office for Recreant Development.
  • Head of the Department of survey.
  • Head of the Department of meteorology.
  • Dean of the college of science of Elfath University.
  • Various space science Interest from different research centers.
  • Students from Amitega School, Tripoli.
  • The centers Researchers and specialist.
  • As the festivities commenced, the Director of the center gave a speech where he welcomed the guests, then emphasized for the occasion that this celebration is taking place in harmony with all celebrations implemented in the Vienna Declaration resulting from UNISPACE-III, held in Vienna in 1999, to use space technology and its applications for the betterment of humanity. Such applications include benefits in water resources, agriculture, managing natural hazards, help in human welfare, education, and health. He added that the great Jamahiriya has became a member in the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which will make available the benefit of its technology and international expertise in the field of outer space applications.  When speeches were over, a visit to an exhibition was conducted.

Two lectures were given by the local engineers of the center giving a summary of the remote sensing science and their applications and on the subject of the phenomena of the total eclipse of the sun that will take place in the Libyan skies in March of 2006.
