World Space Week 2006 Report
The main educational events linked to World Space Week 2006 were organized again in Olsztyn – major city in the North-East Poland – a region famous
from the beautiful, pristine lakes and forests. Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory in Olsztyn organized a series of events during WSW. The Geodesy and Satellite navigation Department of University of
Warmia and Mazury organized a scientific conference of the Polish Committee of Space Research devoted to the problem of using GPS for tools for rescue workers in the area of great lakes.
In addition to the main events organized under patronage of the Polish Academy of Science, we have reports about several local activities – lectures,
exhibitions and other educational events in planetariums, schools and universities all over Poland.
Polish Public Television and Polish Radio presented during World Space Week many programs and interviews about the space technologies which help to save lives
on Earth. World Space Week 2006 had significant promotional effect in media, helping to spread the idea of space education.
