March 3 Reception Recognizes Space Outreach LEADERS

 

Bill Nye, Lori Garver, Bill Gerstenmaier, Ed Weiler and the National Science Teachers Association to be Honored

 

(Washington, DC) – On March 3, 2009, the World Space Week Association will hold its Annual Awards Reception will honor several leaders and achievements in space outreach.   Honorees for 2009 include:

 

·        Bill Nye, the "Science Guy"

·        Lori Garver, President, Capital Space

·        William Gerstenmaier, NASA Associate Administrator for Space Operations

·        Dr. Edward Weiler, NASA Associate Administrator for Science

·        National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)

 

The 6-8 pm reception will be held at the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC and is free and open to the space and science education community.   Interested attendees should RSVP to admin@worldspaceweek.org.   The Annual Awards Reception is sponsored by Hamilton Sundstrand, a World Space Week Association partner.

 

The event is organized by the World Space Week Association which globally coordinates UN-declared World Space Week activities which are held October 4-10 annually.   During World Space Week, the global space sector works to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, technologists and more and educate the general public about space through synchronized events in over 60 countries.

 

Dr. Sergio Camacho, former-Director of the UN Office of Outer Space Affairs, will speak and former NASA Chief of Staff Courtney Stadd will serve as Master of Ceremonies.   For more information on World Space Week and the Awards Reception, see www.worldspaceweek.org
