World Space Week 2001 Report
In Bloemfontein, where the Boyd Observatory is situated, two activities were arranged with World Space Week in mind:
- On 11 October, Mr Gerrit Penning presented a talk on "the International Space Station and its relevance for the Life Sciences" to an audience of about 50 students from
several different schools;
- On 20 October, Prof. AE Schoch presented a talk on "Between Mars and Venus" to an audience from the general public of about 100 people.
For the year 2002, the Foundation for Education, Science and Technology (FEST), has undertaken to act as coordinator for South Africa's participation, so we look forward to much
increased participation under the capable guidance of FEST.
