Space for Sustainable Development The theme of World Space Week 2004 is "Space for Sustainable Development." The stake of sustainable development is the search of a balance. But economic growth is a source of imbalance, thus a source of destruction. Sustainable development must look to limit the destruction of resources, in order to get harmonized growth, for the benefit of the current generation, but also for the benefit of the future generations. Space applications such as Earth observation, telecommunications by satellite, positioning, or navigation are efficient tools to favor sustainable development by managing for the best the available resources, particularly in developing countries. |
