Chronology of UN Declaration of World Space Week
30 Jul 1999: All nations attending UNISPACE III call for World Space Week each year on October 4-10. This was approved in the Vienna Declaration.
5 Oct 1999: UN official meets with World Space Week Association Board of Directors,which
agrees to support the UN in the global coordination of World Space Week.
29 Oct 1999: A committee of the General Assembly approves the resolution with the new dates.
6 Dec 1999: The full General Assembly votes to proclaim World Space Week.
11 Feb 2000: General Assembly Resolution is released.
8 June 2000: UN Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space reviews plans for World Space Week and UN cooperation with World Space Week Association.
3 October 2000: Sergio Camacho, Chief of the Space Applications Section of the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs, is elected to the World Space Week Association Board. The Board meeting in Rio was attended by several UN officials.
4 October 2000: The UN launches the first World Space Week with events in New York and Vienna. UN
Secretary General Kofi Annan sends a World Space Week message.
