Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to help expand World Space Week.  In addition to serving as event organizers and national or local coordinators, individuals can become World Space Week Association volunteers. 

World Space Week Association volunteers:

  • Work at the global level
  • Can be located anywhere
  • Generally work around the year
  • Are unpaid but have outstanding networking opportunities

Volunteer Openings

 

  1. Executive Director – Key management position which leads the volunteers and handles key responsibilities not being handled by filled positions.  Supports the President and other officers in planning and executing the Association’s work, including the development of financial and human resources.   This position uniquely has the possibility of a paid stipend, depending on the fund-raising and financial performance of the Executive Director and the Association at large.   Requires at least eight hours per week.
  2. Vice President - Development – Provides broad oversight of Association efforts to develop financial and other resources.  Requires experience in marketing and familiarity with aerospace, media, and/or consumer industries.   
  3. Director - Poster -- Oversees development, promotion, and distribution of the annual World Space Week poster.   Requires general knowledge of graphic design, printing, and international shipping.
  4. Director - Receptions – Manages the annual World Space Week Awards Reception in Washington.  Requires experience in event management and marketing to the space industry. 
  5. Director - Web Site – Implements upgrades to the World Space Week web site.   Requires experience in building secure web sites, SQL data bases, and dynamic publishing.    
  6. Director – Participant Support – Provides support to organizations which hold events during World Space Week, spanning numerous countries and cultures. 
  7. Director – National Coordinator Support – Services as liaison with the global network of World Space Week National Coordinators
  8. Director – Sponsor Relations – Serves as liaison with the Association's sponsors, which include leading space organizations around the globe.  
  9. Assistant Secretary – Helps organize meetings of the Association Board and Executive Committee. 
  10. Education Committee Members – Helps promote global school and teacher participation in World Space Week.   (Contact Jim Volp)
  11. Media Relations Committee Members – Helps attract global media coverage of World Space Week.   (Contact Alexandra Ruths)
  12. Writers, Editors, and Graphic Designers – Volunteers with outstanding English skills are needed to help prepare, edit, or design communications, such as proposals and fliers.

 

All positions require:

  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Reliable, high-bandwidth internet access including daily email access
  • Generally at least two hours per week unless noted otherwise
