Report on the Results:  A small group of older WILPF members held a noon vigil at Pioneer Square in central Portland. After the vigil they carried large signs calling for peace in space and walked around and throughout the square, a favorite place for lunch time crowds. They delivered leaflets and engaged in conversation on the need for the U.S. to join in efforts to keep space for peaceful uses. The response was encouraging. One young soldier was skeptical and an evangelical soap box preacher seemed confused, but most including students and folks on lunchtime break were receptive, friendly and positive.
