Event Name:  The Only Way is Up! Space Propulsion Systems Past, Present and Future
Event Description:  Dr Welch will describe the history of space travel, both in fantasy and in fact, and explain the basics of rocket propulsion. The talk will explore current and proposed forms of rocket propulsion( e.g. chemical, electric and nuclear) and ideas for space propulsion that do not use rockets (e.g. solar sails and tethers). It will be the first in a series of

Report on the Results:  A very successful event. There were three 'audiences': 1) Those at the event itself (150) 2) Those who passed by the gallery on the street which had a WSW/space display in it for about 6 weeks (difficult to estimate - it is on one of the main routes into Kingston - must be greater than 50000) 3) Those who read about it in the local newspapers (100000+)
