| Event Name: | Science Saturday--Moons, Miners & Mars: Adventures in Space Mining |
| Event Description: | Coming soon, innovators and investors like James Cameron and mining company partners will be looking to the Moon and asteroids for the resources we need, both here on Earth and to explore the rest of the Solar System. Discover examples of these amazing efforts, fun hands-on activities, and simulations of what these exciting missions will be like. First our flight directors will take us on space flights to the surface of the Moon and Mars in the Advanced Spaceflight Lab and the Spaceship Earth Digital Dome. Then Dr. Steve Metzger, who worked with NASA’s Pathfinder Rover data, will take us out to a mock-up Mars landscape to look for and collect rock samples. We’ll even use real robotic rovers! Finally, Dr. Wendy Calvin, with NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover Science Team, will provide us with Mars data and science instruments to help us analyze our rock and mineral samples. Each participant will come away with their own Moon- and Mars-type rocks — as well the adventure of having simulated a NASA sample return mission!
