LPSC(B) organised World Space Week (WSW) -2017 celebrations on 9th and 10th October, 2017 at Dr. H N Kalabhavana, Gauribidanuru, Chikkaballapura District. The events were conducted in tune with this year’s WSW-2017 theme “Exploring New Worlds in Space” in co-ordination with Department of Public Instruction, Govt. of Karnataka, for the students of Government Kannada medium schools of Chikkaballapura District.

Report on the Results:
The event started with a modest inaugural session, the WSW-2017 was formally inaugurated by Shri. D Gangadhar, Associate Director, LPSC(B). He highlighted the importance of Space Programmes undertaken by ISRO and it is benefits. Shri H S Venkatesh, Deputy Director, SCCP gave an insight on the applications of space programmes and how it has benefited common man. The inaugural function was attended by dignitaries from Department of Public Instruction, Chikkaballapura District. A welcome note was presented by Shri K Shambayya, Chairman-WSW 2017. Shri T S Shivaprasad, Presentation Committee Chairman – WSW 2017, presented the vote of thanks.
This was followed by presentations on the WSW-2017 theme. More than 2500 students were part of the presentation sessions given by the LPSC (B) team. The presentation sessions were given in 8 batches spread over 2 days by the identified resource persons. After every session, students had interactive session to clarify their doubts. Pamphlets and stickers depicting information on launch vehicles and satellites of ISRO were provided to participating Students/Teachers. Food was served for all the participating students and teachers.
An Exhibition was set-up in co-ordination with ISRO Headquarters. This gave an opportunity for the students to view launch vehicle and satellite models. Also, placards depicting important missions of ISRO, details on launch vehicles and spacecrafts etc were displayed. Students and teachers had Interaction with the volunteers on the missions taken up by ISRO and its achievements.
As in previous years, Essay, Elocution, Quiz and Painting competitions for the students were conducted at the same venue. The competitions were conducted in two categories- Junior (Class VI and VII) and Senior (Class VIII to X). The topics for the competitions revolved around the theme of WSW-2017. The response and the quality of performance from the students in all the competitions were overwhelming. All the participants of the competitions were given certificate as a token of encouragement. In total about 3,000 students & teachers benefited from this two day event.
