| Report on the Results: | On October 4, Colegio Stratford community was given the task of designing and building a space shuttle figure across the “Mandriles” football field on the North Campus. The participation of students, teachers, administrative staff and parents allowed to achieve the objective and make history. THE PROCESS At the end of August, the event was registered at the World Space Week Association (WSWA) which disseminates and promotes this event worldwide. On August 29, the application is sent to be part of the Space Selfie 2018, including the objective of being photographed, the impact and the scope. On October 2 we received the mail from the Vice President of Education and Coordination of WSWA, where he informed us that Colegio Stratford would be the first venue to be photographed during the World Space Week 2018. On October 3, all parents are notified, and students are invited to participate the next day. On October 4, from 7:00 am, the installation of a space shuttle made with recycled tarpaulins, fabrics, tablecloths and sheets, as well as sheets that the students brought in the football field on the North Campus of the school. With the help of the students and teachers, the construction of the space shuttle is finished and all the participants remained motionless in different positions waiting for the satellite to pass to photograph us. On Monday, October 8 the image of our space shuttle appears on the page of Planet (company that owns the satellite that took our Space Selfie). The shuttle was installed in our football field and the figure crossed from the beginning of the field to the touchdown line on the other side. This means that the figure had a length of 110 yards, and the outline of the figure was 6 meters. The other locations selected are: Belfast (United Kingdom), Tallinn (Estonia), Ferrol (Spain), Abu Dhahbi (United Arab Emirates), Doncaster (United Kingdom) and Cork (Ireland). Being the only satellite photo in the entire American continent. We want to take advantage of this means to thank each and every one of the members of our community who participated in this historic moment, and we invite you to continue being part of this process of transformation through education. |
