Event Name: | Lecciones de la misión Rosetta: ¿qué hemos aprendido de los cometas? |
Event Description: | "Lessons of the Rosetta mission : what have we learned from comets?" is the suggestive title of the talk given by Prof. Dr. Rafael Rodrigo, astrophysicist and Coordinator of Scientific Policy in the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Comets have evolved with the Solar System in the last 4.500 million years, and they still keep secrets about the Earth and Solar System formation. The space probe Rosetta - a mission of ESA - travelled through the space for more than ten years, to meet the comet 67P/Churyumov - Gerasimenko. After a pursuit of more than 6.000 million km, Rosetta made history on August 6, 2014, being the first spatial probe in meeting a comet and continuing together the trip towards the Sun. On November 12, Rosetta reached another historical milestone when the probe Philae landed on the surface of the comet. Until the end of the mission on September 30, 2016, both the orbital and landing modules have provided a large amount of data, which is allowing us to know more on the comets and on the evolution of the Solar System. During the talk, the first scientific results of the Rosetta mission will be presented, with special emphasis in the Osiris instrument. |
