To celebrate World Space Week 2010, the Google Lunar X Prize (GLX) Team Summit will be hosted on the Isle of Man on October 4-5, 2010. This two-day summit will discuss upcoming competition items and key initiatives that the teams will encounter over the next four years in their attempt to win the $30 million GLX prize. Over the course of the two day summit the teams will engage in workshops, seminars, informational lectures and participate in educational activities with local students. Teams will also meet with key officials and space industry that operate on the Isle of Man that will prove useful in their race to win the GLX prize. One of the highlights of the Summit will be the Star Party to celebrate UN designated World Space Week which takes place annually from 4-10 October. The Star Party will take place in the historic medieval Castle Rushen which dates back to 13th and 16th century.
Representatives from some of the 21 teams from 11 countries entered in the X Prize competition and representatives of the X Prize Foundation will be present where they will come together to interact directly with the Isle of Man Government Space Commerce Division and representatives of space industry who operate on the Isle of Man. The Google Lunar X Prize is a $30 million prize which will be awarded to the first privately funded team to send a robot to the moon, travel 500 meters and transmit video, images and data back to the Earth.
