Event Description: | The High school of Payerne and environs, academic circle of Payerne (Canton Vaud, Switzerland), has chosen the universe with all his aspects as a special educational subject for the academic period 2010-11. It is therefore obvious that our club has selected this school to celebrate the World Space Week 2010 under his patronage. The High School will treat, with approximately 60 students, topics concerning the universe. According to our main objective, it is about to interest this young people in technology, engineering and science. They will work in groups on different interesting subjects and then present the results on October 9th to the public at the Swiss Air Force Museum „Clin d' Ailes“ in Payerne. The “Payerne World Space Week Program” starts in September after the summer vacations and ends on October 9th (13:30 – 17:00), in accordance with the school program. Later, during the Fair of Payerne, from November 5 to 14, their work will again be presented to a large public in the exhibition stand of the Swiss Air Force Museum „Clin d' Ailes“. A highlight of the “Payerne World Space Week” will once again be the attendance of Swiss Astronaut and Club Member Claude Nicollier. Claude will evaluate the student’s work during the “Space Day” in the museum and then complete the Payerne World Space Week with a Debriefing during a meeting with the students and teachers. He also will be present in the exhibition stand of the Swiss Air Force Museum „Clin d' Ailes“ during the Fair of Payerne, when the Students presents their work to the Fair visitors. Travel into space without a radio connection is simply not conceivable. This is the reason why we always include a short-wave radio contact with another school somewhere in the World. This will be another highlight of our “Payerne Space Day”. The students formulate questions on topics of the universe that they ask the radio partners, and they will try to answer these questions. This radio contact will take place from the museum via our nearby radio station HB4FR, using our special radio call "HB9SPACE". By the way: We are proud to announce that in October 2010 a PDF-document about our former World Space Weeks will be launched in the space on board of the satellite “ARISSat-1“. The launch will take place during an EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity) from the ISS (International Space Station). The document presents the "Payerne Space Days” 2007, 2008 and 2009, which took place in the Swiss Air Force Museum „Clin d' Ailes“ in Payerne under our patronage. |

Report on the Results: | The "Payerne Space Day 2010" was held on October 9, as usual in the Swiss Air Force Museum "Clin d'Ailes". It was animated by students of the High School of Payerne and environs, academic circle of Payerne (Canton Vaud, Switzerland). The Students have presented: - the sun, our star in the center of the solar system, using models and posters - The creation of our solar system by using models and images - An intergalactic journey as an RPG (Role Playing Game), in which a group of tourists have visited our planets with the “Solar System Express”, accompanied by a very knowledgeable guide who presented them these planets - The distances in our solar system, by means of a model and a table that shows the duration of a trip to the planets, using various means of transportation, from walking to the Space Rocket. The highlight of the "Payerne Space Day" was again the short-wave radio contact with OM Philip, A65BI in the United Arab Emirates. The students asked him some very interesting questions about the universe and Philippe replied as usually in a clear and concise manner and with a touch of humor. Unfortunately, this time the propagation conditions were not favorable, so that the exchange of questions/answers was sometimes affected by atmospheric disturbances. Another highlight will be a debriefing of Astronaut and Club Member Claude Nicollier (HB9CN) with the students, to be held in November 2010. |
