Event Description: | "Space Week on Viking.TV starting 5 October: Each livestream begins each day at 7PM BST. Content is also taped and available to view the following day on Viking.TV. • Monday, 5 October – The Hubble Space Telescope at 30 – Viking Resident Astronomer Howard Parkin will chronicle the journey of the Hubble Space Telescope over its 30-year career, including its development, launch and many important discoveries. • Tuesday, 6 October – The NASA Project – Alastair will sit down with British photographer Benedict Redgrove to discuss his recent book and art project NASA: Past and Present Dreams of the Future, which contains more than 200 images of space exploration’s most iconic objects, as you’ve never seen them before. • Wednesday, 7 October – “Exploring Mars & Searching for Signs of Life†– Join Viking Resident Astronomer Ray Arvidson as he shares insights from his lecture on Mars. Arvidson will brief viewers on new discoveries made from Curiosity Rover including ancient rivers and lakes on Mars, and discuss the possibility of life on the red planet. • Thursday, 8 October – Interview with Astronaut, Charles Armstrong – Anne Diamond will interview retired NASA astronaut Charles Armstrong. During his 35-year career at the Johnson Space Center, Armstrong worked on a variety of NASA projects including the Space Shuttle, Shuttle-Mir, International Space Station, Assured Crew Return Vehicle and Orbital Space Plane, and the Orion Program. He received the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal in 2011 and the NASA Spaceflight Awareness Leadership Award in 2009. Friday, 9 October. When Space is Home. On this special At Home session, award-winning broadcaster Lynn Sherr will explore what it is like to live and work in space with a panel of former astronauts. Panelists include four NASA astronauts: - Dr. Anna Fisher. Retired astronaut and first mother in space, Dr. Fisher is also the godmother of Viking Orion. - Colonel Jack Fischer. During a 2017 mission, Fischer logged 136 days in space with two spacewalks, and after a nine-year NASA career he took a position at the U.S. Air Force Space Command. - Dr. Richard Linnehan. The first veterinarian in space, Dr. Linnehan served as a NASA astronaut in 1992 and is currently working with NASA Human Research Program, the Exploration and Integration branches. - Barbara Morgan Retired astronaut, Morgan pioneered the 'Teacher in Space' program and flew on Space Shuttle Endeavour in 2007." |
