Event Name: | An Introduction to Nanosatellite-based Quantum Communication with Dr. Tanvirul Islam |
Event Description: | Join us this Saturday, 10th October, at 10 AM as we discuss Quantum Computing and Networking and their applications in Nanosatellites with Dr. Tanvirul Islam! ABSTRACT: There is a silent revolution happening in the fields of computing and physics, namely the quantum computing revolution. Both quantum computation and communication differ from their classical counterparts not in speed or memory capacity, but by type. Recent experiments have demonstrated that a quantum computer that has a few hundred qubits can solve problems that are not solvable using all the supercomputers combined on Earth. This has profound implications in the field of natural sciences, and in communication and cryptography. For example, quantum computers can easily break the existing public key cryptosystem rendering almost all our online transactions insecure. In this webinar, we will talk about satellite-based quantum communication and Singapore’s pioneering role in this field. We will briefly describe our SpooQY-1 quantum nanosatellite mission and give an overview of other satellite-based quantum communication projects happening all over the world. ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: Tanvirul Islam has done his PhD in quantum computing from School of Computing, NUS and is currently working at the Centre for Quantum Technologies as a research fellow. He works in the field of satellite-based quantum communication. |
