Report on the Results:  The WSW 2021 programmes were inaugurated by Dr VP Joy IAS, Chief Secretary of the State of Kerala on October 4, 2021 at VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram. Prof. Pascale Ehrenfreund, President IAF & ISU delivered a special message during the occasion. Astro photography is one of the three competitions that we introduced afresh this space week the others being technical challenge and elocution. Being a new contest, many were unaware of how to even compete in the contest. The team had successfully managed to kindle the scientific spirit behind the programme by organising a special webinar as part of orientation. We have received very interesting photographs of the night sky which depicts a good outcome from this event, many even studied how to take photograph of the night sky. Elocution competition was organised for the High school and higher secondary category. Both categories put together we had 500 participants and evaluation of these contests were conducted online using the videoconference platform. Another major event of world space week is the painting competition . Initially we had huge registration of 13000 of which 4800 valid entries where there finally when all categories are put together. Technical challenge, another major crowd puller of this year's celebration. We posed a challenge in front of the students, to design a space habitat, and they turned up with marvelous ideas. 292 teams, which translates to more than 1400 students, submitted the project report for evaluation of which five teams from each category competed in the final presentation which was held on October 9th. Quizzing, as always, was another major event of this celebration. Conducted fully making use of online platforms, the preliminary round was conducted on October 7 and the selected 32 participants from the 4500 students competed in the grand finale which was conducted on October 7th. 8 winners from the semi finals completed in the final which was held yesterday. This time we could reach be more than 100000 students, when all ones are put together. Through 575 schools, who registered for the reach out programme, we could reach to 75000 students though online lecture sessions handled by resource persons from VSSC, LPSC & IISU. Technical video modules were prepared and it has reached more than 10000 students which was mainly aimed at the High school and higher secondary section. Yesterday we had a concluding section wherein and Dir VSSC, IISU and others senior colleagues answered intriguing questions from the young minds. We used to bring the public to our campus, to show case and make them aware of what we are doing and what we offer to the society. Named as virtual open house the program this year, the programme inaugurated by Director VSSC on October 5th and we had Dr K Radhakrishnan as our guest of honour who delivered his special talk on the “promise of space technology for India”. We also had two technical lectures which were handled by Shri CS Harish, Group director VSSC and Dr KG Vijayalakshmi from IIST. Targeting the general public and the student community as well, we had a number of programs which were telecast through different media which included talk shows, interviews and general awareness to spread the message. We had extended all these programs through our Facebook and Instagram pages as well.
