Event Description: | The Canterbury Branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand and the South Canterbury Museum are holding a free public event to mark World Space Week this Friday night, 8 October. This will see a live on-screen presentation by Haritina Mogoşanu, the New Zealand coordinator of World Space Week who will talk about World Space Week and this year’s theme, Women in Space. Hari is an astrobiologist and one of New Zealand’s top science communicators and an internationally recognised advocate for space science education. As well as being the New Zealand coordinator for World Space Week, she is executive director of the New Zealand Astrobiology Network. Hari trained for Mars in the Utah desert, which she says was her closest to date experience understanding what it would be like to be an astronaut. She researched and wrote her Masters of International Security degree thesis on the subject of the institutionalisation of civilian space research, she called "Stars without Wars." |
