Event Name: | The Next 50 Years In Space |
Event Description: | Starts 8pm. April 12, 2011 marked the 50th anniversary of human spaceflight, which started with the flight of Yuri Gagarin in 1961. Predicting the future isn’t easy – all kinds of people have failed to forsee achievements that we now take for granted. But they have also predicted things that have not taken place – bases on the Moon, humans on Mars, and holidays in space. Jerry Stone looks forward to three possible projects that could transform our space activities, resulting in millions of people living and working away from the surface of the Earth. Here is his personal view of what the future may hold for us. Jerry Stone is a freelance presenter on astronomy and space exploration. He has followed the space programme for over 50 years, and gave his first presentation on space 45 years ago, back in 1969. Since then he has spoken at the Edinburgh Festival, the Palace of Westminster, the Royal Institution, the UK Space Conference, the World Science Fiction Convention … and a rock festival! |
