| Report on the Results: | On last October - 05 -2008, hundreds of youth from Hochiminh city and nearby region like Phan Thiet, Vung Tau had all participated in an exciting and memorable astronomy festival organized by Hochiminh Amateur Astronomy Club and Institution of Physics as a sponsor. At the festival, visitors were able to view the models of spaceships as well as pictures and photos which portray the history of mankind in exploring the universe. Besides, copies of sophisticated 400-years old telescopes were displayed. Visitors could take a look at not only the ancient Hans Lippershey telescope, Galileo telescope, Newton telescope but also the modern ones such as Hubble telescope. Especially, for the first time, the largest telescope made by HAAC members was introduced. The audiences were whole-heartedly instructed by HAAC members to make a simple telescope and a water rocket. Moreover, Professor Nguyen Mong Giao - prestigious physician in Vietnam attracted many science-lovers by his talk about the Large Hadron Collider - the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator. In the afternoon, a water rocket competition among HAAC water rocket club and the others high schools: Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Hung Vuong and Phan Boi Chau was successfully held. Nonstop clapping showed how engaging the event was. Before this, posters of the festival were publicized in over 20 universities and high schools in Ho chi minh city. The festival was also introduced on TV channels as well as on newspaper, attracting more and more people. The success of this event was significant especially when HAAC had became the National Co-ordinator for the World Space Week. Our club had helped to broaden the working region for WSW activities, from big cities like Ho Chi Minh or Ha Noi to others peripheries like Da Nang, Phan Thiet, Khanh Hoa, Pleiku at the same time attracting more and more youth. |
