Event Name:  LIGHT POLLUTION AND ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATIONS
Event Description:  Workshops are organized on topics that will surprise aspects related to light pollution. Because light pollution is unwanted light that is projected onto the night sky. Because it makes the sky much brighter, light pollution has a major impact on astronomy, preventing the light of less bright celestial objects from reaching us. The main cause is the faulty design of the lighting and it means lost energy - the light should reach the ground, not the sky. Light pollution can be amplified by air pollution, dust and smoke reflecting radiation in all directions, illuminating the sky more strongly. These types of pollution not only affect astronomy, but also animal life and human health. 7.10.2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. the workshop entitled "Light pollution - Dark skies" is attended by 11th grade students 8.10.2024 from 15:00 to 16:00 the workshop entitled "Light pollution and light - experiments" is attended by 10th grade students

Report on the Results:  "Light pollution and astronomical observations" was the general theme agreed for the workshops organized at the Grigore Antipa Botoșani Theoretical High School on 07.10.2024 and 08.10.2024, events included in the calendar of activities of World Space Week 2024-WSW2024. The activities carried out consisted of workshops presenting the ppt made by Professor Voinea-Axinte Costică, which included information on light pollution and images made by students guided by Professor Pavel Cristina, followed by discussions, analyses, competitions photography of factors that generate light pollution, climate change and their influence in astronomy. Following the activities carried out, several ideas crystallized - • light pollution represents the unwanted light that is projected onto the night sky. • makes the sky much brighter, light pollution has a major impact on astronomy, preventing the light of less bright celestial objects from reaching us. • the main cause is the faulty design of the lighting and it means lost energy - the light should reach the ground, not the sky. • light pollution can be amplified by air pollution, dust and smoke reflecting radiation in all directions, illuminating the sky more strongly. • these types of pollution not only affect astronomy, but also animal life and human health
