World Space Week is an annual event that recognizes the powerful societal impacts of space, science, and technology. The theme for this year's World Space Week is Space & Climate! What comes to mind when you hear the term space exploration? Perhaps you visualize the Apollo astronauts landing on the Moon, robotic explorers venturing deep into the solar system, or even Matt Damon stranded on Mars. Looking up at this vast universe, it's easy to forget that so much space exploration focuses on our home—Spaceship Earth! In fact, one of NASA's primary science objectives is to better understand Earth's changing climate through study from space. In this talk, learn about the orbiting labs constantly monitoring the vital signs of Earth and the impact that data has in the fight against climate change. Then, we'll put this data in your hands using tools built by NASA to help conceptualize these large-scale changes in Earth's systems over time. |
