Event Description: | CAM-SUST is the only astronomical club of Shahlalal University of Science and Technology. The main goal of CAM-SUST is to learn about astronomy and spread knowledge about astronomy. From October 4th to 10th, we'll be hosting a variety of events to celebrate World Space Week 2024. Here is the week long program outline: 1) October 4th: 10 AM -> A cycling adventure through the city while spreading awareness and School Program at Tarapur Primary School, Tarapur Tea Estate, Sylhet 2) October 5th: 9 AM -> Online CAM-Talk on “Intersection of Astronomy and Climate Studies”. Our guest speaker: Syeda Lammim Ahad (Postdoctoral Fellow, Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics, University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) 3) October 6th: 4 PM -> Writing Competition on Space and Climate Change 4) October 7th: 9 PM -> Study Circle on “Astronomy and Geography”. Co-ordinator: Protyasha Talukdar, Student, Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering, SUST. 5) October 8th: 12 PM -> Online Talk on “Observing the Universe using Cosmic Hydrogen”. Our guest speaker: Khan M. B. Asad (Assistant Professor and Director, Computational and Observational Astronomy Lab, Independent University, Bangladesh) 6) October 9th: 9 PM -> Online Project Circle on research work “Correlation Study of Distances Calculated Using Absorption Line Identification and Cosmological Parameters from Planck Data Release.” 7) October 10th: 9 PM -> Online Project Circle on research work “Image Processing and Analysis of Multiple Wavelength Astronomical Data Using Python Tools.” |

Report on the Results: | On the very first day of Space Week we arranged a Cycle Rally and School Program at Tarapur Primary School, Tarapur Tea Estate, Sylhet. We arranged sessions about the Moon, our Solar System, Gravity, how seasonal change works, etc. Where the children learned to ask the very first question out of curiosity, ‘Why?' . They got their questions answered by our team. We had some VR goggles and the “Lunar VR App” by Team Olik (Champion at Nasa Space App Challenge 2018). The kids were astonished watching the surface of the Moon, Apollo 11 landing site and the view of Solar Eclipse from the moon surface. Then we arrange a paper plane competition. We had a water rocket and launcher ready to go! After explaining how real rockets work, we launched our very own. At last, we shared snacks with the students and arranged a prize giving ceremony. Throughout the week we arrange 2 online astronomical talks, 2 online project circles and 1 study circle. We also publish astronomical writings from our club members. For the online talks we had Syeda Lamim Ahad (WCA Postdoctoral Fellow, Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics, University of Waterloo, Canada) and Khan M. B. Asad (Assistant Professor and Director, Computational and Observational Astronomy Lab, Independent University, Bangladesh). At the project circle we take sessions about our 2 astronomical projects. Project 1: Correlation Study of Distances Calculated Using Absorption Line Identification and Cosmological Parameters from Planck Data Release. Project 2: Image Processing and Analysis of Multiple Wavelength Astronomical Data Using Python Tools. There were more than 100 audiences presented both online and offline throughout the event. |
