Event Name:  Planet in Focus: Students Document Earth’s Changes from the ISS
Event Description:  Students will have the opportunity to participate in an exciting NASA mission where they will learn about life aboard the International Space Station (ISS), including what astronauts do during their free time while on space missions. As part of NASA's EarthKAM program, mission 88, students will use a camera mounted on the ISS to capture images of Earth. Afterward, they will analyze the photos and compare them with images taken by their peers in previous years. This comparison will allow them to observe changes in the photographed areas, focusing on the impact of climate change.

Summary (maximum 250 words) The educational project Planet in Focus: Students Document Earth’s Changes from the ISS involved 25 students from the 7th Grade A class at the Liceul Tehnologic de Construcții și Protecția Mediului Arad, who learned about the International Space Station (ISS) and its role in space research. The activities in the project included interactive presentations about the history of the ISS, the missions conducted there, and the daily lives of astronauts during their space missions. Students explored digital applications such as Stellarium, Sky Map, and ISS Tracker, which helped them monitor the ISS’s trajectories and orbits. Discussions also covered the international collaboration that made this platform possible and the impact of the ISS on space research. Additionally, students learned about Sally Ride, the first female astronaut from the United States, and her initiative to engage students in space research through the NASA EarthKAM program. A highlight of the project was participation in the NASA EarthKAM mission no. 88, where students used a camera aboard the ISS to capture images of Earth. In an international competition, Romanian students competed with peers from Greece and Croatia to produce the best photographs of the planet. The goal was both artistic and educational, analyzing climate change and geographic transformations in images taken over different years.
