Event Name: | Seminário de Astronomia: Transients in BINGO Radio Telescope |
Event Description: | Seminário de Astronomia: Transients in BINGO Radio Telescope SEMINÁRIO DO DEPARTAMENTO DE ASTRONOMIA Transients in BINGO Radio Telescope a talk by Prof. Amílcar Rabelo de Queiroz (UFCG e Radiotelescópio BINGO) - Remotely Data:02/10/2024 Horário de início:14:00 Abstract: The BINGO (Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) from Integrated Neutral Gas Observations) radio telescope will map the Universe using neutral Hydrogen emission line in redshift range 0.13 ≤ z ≤ 0.45. The main expected result is to probe BAO. In addition, the instrument optical design and hardware configuration support the search for Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) and other transients. In this talk, we discuss the efficiency of the BINGO radio telescope and its planned system of outriggers to detect FRBs. We also briefly report on the status of the current construction of the radio telescope in the site in the State of Paraiba, Brazil. Short-Bio: He holds a degree in Physics from the University of Brasília (1999), a master's degree in Physics from the University of Brasília (2002) and a PhD in Physics from the University of São Paulo (2006). He completed a postdoctoral internship at the International Center for Condensed Matter Physics (2007-2008). He completed a postdoctoral internship at the Department of Theoretical Physics at the University of Zaragoza, Spain, with financial support from CAPES (2014-2015). He was a professor at the Physics Institute of the University of Brasília. He is currently a professor at the Physics Department of the Federal University of Campina Grande. He has worked for a long time on applications of quantum field theory in areas such as quantum information, condensed matter, particles and black holes. In both quantum information and condensed matter, he has carried out numerous works involving the analytical calculation of entanglement entropy in various low-dimensional systems. He is currently one of the coordinators of the BINGO radio telescope project, which is being built in the state of Paraíba. In addition to coordinating this major Brazil-China project, he has dedicated himself to the construction of the radio telescope itself, to the creation of receivers and associated electronics for the radio telescope, and to the training of researchers who will operate and analyze the data from the BINGO radio telescope. He is also currently one of the leaders of the group of Big Science projects in Brazil, which was highlighted at the National Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation in 2024. |
