Event Description:  World Space Week in the Hewelianum Centre. Screening of “The Visit” film. 3rd and 4th October Time: 11:30, 13.30 Director: Michael Madsen (Denmark) Film description: “The universe is a pretty big place. It's bigger than anything anyone has ever dreamed of before. So if it's just us... seems like an awful waste of space. Right?” – this famous quote from the film “Contact” seems a bit abstract. But let’s take a scientific perspective. There are billions of stars in our Galaxy and there are millions, if not billions, of such galaxies in the Universe. So is there any reason why an alien civilization cannot exist somewhere in this vast space? However, are we – the Earth inhabitants – ready for an encounter with alien species? Do extraterrestrial civilizations have the same rights in our Universe as we do? What are we going to tell them when we meet them? And how are we going to communicate with them? The film presents many scientific, existential and philosophical questions and problems. Can they be solved? How are we going to act in front of aliens and what are we going to do after they leave? And last but not least – are our lives going to be the same after such visit?
